Wunderbar Glasgow — Live Sound Technician

I’ve built strong, trusting relationships with the musicians at Wunderbar…

… by providing consistent, comfortable monitor mixes that help them perform at their best. Earning that trust has been one of the most rewarding aspects of the role and has reinforced the importance of calm, responsive communication in a fast-paced live setting.

Challenges & Growth

  • Balanced competing sound sources in a noisy, live bar environment—particularly learning to prioritise vocal clarity over personal bias as a guitarist.

  • Adapted quickly to changing setups, handling live mixes on the fly and ensuring performers were comfortable with monitor levels.

  • Refined my critical listening, improving my ability to mix by ear and respond dynamically to real-time audience and performer feedback.

Wunderbar is a lively, high-traffic bar in the heart of Glasgow known for its nightly live music and upbeat atmosphere. As an ad hoc sound technician, I’m responsible for setting up and operating both the front-of-house and monitor mixes for live performers—typically handling vocals, guitar, kick drum, and occasionally keys. The role requires fast setup, careful balancing for a crowded acoustic space, and real-time problem solving in a live entertainment environment.
